BBC Broadcasting House

Working with Lend Lease construction to performance guidelines from their consultants we manufactured and installed a variety of screening systems designed to mitigate specific threat levels in various locations in all of the buildings which make up Broadcasting House.

Key Points

Product system:

50-100

Source of induction:

Transformer
Switchgear
HV/LV Cables

Mitigation target:

3x-ambient

Main contractor:

lend-edit

Project Overview

Utilising a combination of screening mediums and materials installed to buildings forming the BBC complex as we know it.

Coreshield installed various systems including, fully welded heavy screening for transformers, busbar stray field suppression in thinner low carbon material and light gauge aluminium for higher frequency screening protecting broadcast studios.

We successfully completed multiple areas over a two-year period on this logistically challenging site. Our work was independently tested and certified.

Bespoke solution

No one solution was suitable for all of the many designated areas, everything was performance based. Mitigation methods and scope varied greatly utilising 12mm thick fully welded low carbon steel in some areas to mechanically jointed galvanised steel in others.

Several areas required a combination of heavy gauge aluminium foil and lightweight galvanised steel providing an effective screening medium. The scope of work varied from fully encapsulating systems to partial directional screening.

To ensure full compliance and maximise usable space around building cores some cable risers required EMF protection.
